Of course, fishing involves no searching or competition with farmers for your prey. Killing Turtles or Naga seems to yield a better drop rate on Big-Mouth Clams, so I would surmise that it would have a better chance to get the pearls you seek. I until recently had 5 Golden Pearls in the bank, until I gave them away for Mooncloth robes and some runed arcanite rods. I usually fish until I have collected 20-30 eels, which takes 2 to 3 hours (so about 10 eels or clams per hour). You can only catch clams during daylight hours, and the rate of finding a clam is the same as finding an eel (about 1 in 15). Ĩ4520I have found at them while fishing for eels in Steamwheedle port. Can anyone confirm this? Do I have to go to Azshara and kill "green" Naga mobs (level 53-55) to have any chance on Golden Pearls from Big-mouth Clams at all? In fact, I was surprised that I hardly met anyone killing mobs there who had my character level, so I think the latter must be true. This could be either extremely diminishing returns or a simple cap after a certain level, so that you can't exploit such areas for Golden Pearls farming. Off these 300 clams, I got the following pearls:Īssuming the estimated 0.5% drop chance of Golden Pearls from Big-mouth Clams on Thottbot is correct, I just had bad luck today, or - what I think - I was too high level (level 60) compared to the "grey" Naga mobs (level 43-45) to get any Golden Pearl at all. In 5-6 hours, I killed about 600 of these very easy to kill guys there, resulting in 300 dropped Big-mouth Clams. The Feralas Hatecrest Naga have a chance of about 50% to drop the Big-mouth Clams, of which - according to Thottbot - about 0.5% (= about every 200th clam) can contain a Golden Pearl. It wasn't too bad all things considered, but I don't think I would've done it if I could afford the pearls off the AH.I went with my level 60 Undead Warrior to Feralas today to farm pearls from the Hatecrest Naga on the islands in the west (south of the Feathermoon Stronghold). Over the course of this insanity I got a 15 Iridescent, 13 Black and 10 Small Lustruous pearls as well a blue BoE Soulkeeper, 2 Traveler's Backpack and made around 160 raw gold from looting and vendoring. It took me around 9 hours time to get both. There were only a handful on the AH and they went for around 160g each - the money I didn't have - so I went grinding. I was looking for 2 Golden Pearls for my Spell Power weapon enchant. There is a vendor not too far - Jubie Gadgetspring - where you can unload the stuff you get if you commit to farming.Even herbalists and miners don't go there often, and everyon else has no business to be there. Kill everything on the U-shaped ridge and then go lap back around, the naga will have respawned by then. It has got plenty of naga to kill and there is virtually no downtime. It's the south-eastern ridge overlooking Duke Hydraxis. The location to farm: Ravencrest Monument in Azshara. This method can lead to frustrating chains of empty (of pearls) clams, but you also may get 2 in your first 2 clams. You are not guaranteed to get a Golden Pearl in 200 clams. You will probably not get 4 Black Pearls in 100 clams. The drop rate listed here is also misleading. It's like rolling a 200-sided die every time you open a clam and hoping from one specific number. The drop rate doesn't aggregate as you open the clams. This item has a frustratingly low drop rate that will seriously test your sanity. Comment by Vibriss DISCLAIMER: If you have the option to buy the pearls somewhere, strongly consider it before going to farm them.
